TRAVEL

Writing about travel is a joy and I’m lucky to have experienced some amazing adventures through my work.

My first ever press trip was to Switzerland – I remember meeting the other journalists, all strangers, at the airport and thinking that us being thrown together for five days was a bit like entering the Big Brother house. Since then I have been a regular travel writer for the Daily Star and Daily Star Sunday, specialising to a large degree in Turkey after a year spent living in Istanbul working as Assistant Editor on the English-language edition of Time Out, and dog-friendly travel which culminated in a best-selling book on the subject. My travel writing has also appeared in the Sunday Telegraph, Elle, Daily Express, Forbes Magazine, Bella and The Times.

Journalism

PETS

From visiting orangutans in Borneo to swimming with pigs in the Bahamas, I’ve been writing about the animal kingdom in the national press for the past two decades – it’s my pet subject.

REAL LIFE

There’s an art to writing first person real life stories – delving into sensitive issues with tact and empathy, hitting the right tone and fulfilling the editor’s demands while staying true to the interviewee’s words.

FEATURES

I relish writing in-depth features, out and about with my dictaphone speaking to people and gathering information, getting to the heart of a matter – it's old-school, back-to-basics journalism.
